Milkwood Manor \ Accommodation in Plettenberg Bay

Milkwood Manor Plettenberg Bay

Plettenberg Bay is one of the most glamorous holiday destinations in South Africa. Set in the heart of the Garden Route, it’s blessed with a wealth of natural assets that make it the perfect holiday spot. Portuguese explorers called it "baia formosa" - beautiful bay.

Plettenberg Bay, as it later became known, embraces one of the most glorious sweeps of coastal scenery. Back dropped by the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountain ranges and protected on one side by Robberg Nature reserve, the area is also awash with rivers and lagoons, lush with indigenous forest and bounded by long sandy beaches. When Joachim van Plettenberg, Governor of the Cape, arrived in 1778, he was so taken by the beauty of the bay, he named it after himself.

Accommodation

The Georgian-styled building is designed for spaciousness, reflecting the vast unlimited landscape surrounding it, without sacrificing its ambience of intimacy, epitomized by the airy double-storied foyer and large breakfast and sundowner terrace.

Most of the eleven bedrooms lead to a patio / balcony. All rooms are en-suite to a Victorian-styled bath and / or shower room, twin - or queen-sized beds available. Each room has a TV (DStv), safe, fan, hairdryer and coffee/tea-making facilities. There is also a TV room with satellite programs.

Facilities

Wake up to the sound of breaking surf and seagull’s cry, and the exquisite views offered by the Manor’s unique position as it juts out into the sea. Observe the blue ocean’s white-crested surf tumbling onto a golden beach, a fascinating ever-changing river estuary and the majestic Tsitsikamma Mountains. Wander along the lagoon’s sandy edge and take a dip in the natural flowing water; boat across to the opposite shore for an exhilarating stroll along the pristine beach, a veritable bird sanctuary. The roofdeck affords all-round views and kayaks are available.

Restaurant

Far from traffic, crowds and noise, immerse yourself in these magic surroundings - a perfect antidote for stress and strain! The Lemon Grass’ international cuisine is served on a terrace lapped by the ocean. Relish a delicious meal, whilst enjoying the most spectacular panorama along the Garden Route.

Location & Attractions

We are located walking distance to the town centre, and are central to the largest selection of attractions along the Garden Route, that has kept our guests busy for up to three weeks! They are spread from Knysna, a thirty-minute drive west, to the Tsitsikamma Forest - an equally short drive east.

A vast landscape of sea, sand and sky; of ocean waves one moment roaring and aggressively engulfing, next becalmed and in peaceful retreat; sea birds calling, dipping and diving, others congregating on a tongue of sand to sunbathe; dolphins surfing; whales jumping; mountain peaks mysteriously shrouded in mist one day, at other times resplendent in their grandeur. This is nature alive! Where better to unwind and relax?
