The luxurious 31-roomed Protea Hotel Mossel Bay is a graceful landmark, built in 1846, overlooking Santos Bay and the harbor. 20 min drive to the airport and halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Nestling on the Mossel Bay shoreline with the majestic Outeniqua Mountains as a backdrop, the Protea Hotel Mossel Bay is singled out from other establishments. The stone walls and Mediterranean-style out-buildings belie the fact that the main building is one of the oldest in Mossel Bay and forms part of the Dias Museum Complex.
Previously The Old Post Office Tree Manor Hotel, the Protea Hotel Mossel Bay, situated off Santos beach, could best be described as a hotel complex. It comprises of a breakfast patio with sea view, the Cafe Gannet Seafood Restaurant - "Mossel Bay's Seafood House", overlooking the Bay and Outeniqua Mountains. The Blue Oyster pool lounge, adjacent to the pool, overlooks Bay. Also part of the complex is Jacana Curios and The Wild Mossel Bay Adventure Centre.
The brand new Ochre Conference Centre has just opened. This conference centre can accommodate up to 120 delegates, is beautifully designed and has all the latest technology. Added attractions are the close proximity to shopping facilities, the yacht club, harbor and north-facing, sun splashed beaches. As part of the museum complex, the Maritime, Local History and Shell Museum, as well as the Old Post Office Tree, are all within strolling distance. The new golf estate is 2km away and the airport a 20 minute drive.
Accommodation
The Protea Hotel Mossel Bay complex comprises 31 designer-decorated units, ranging from 23 three star en-suite rooms to eight 4 star self-catering harbor suites. The rooms' various categories range from standard, family and manor rooms to harbour and presidential suite.
All units are spacious and well appointed with en suite bathrooms and all modern amenities of WIFI, TV, direct dial telephones, radio clock, hairdryer, fans and/or air-conditioning, as well as tea/coffee making facilities. This, together with superb sea views, offers an extremely comfortable stay.
Harbor suites have a modern lounge equipped with TV, Hi-fi and DVD, two bedrooms (main with king-size bed, second with two twin beds), a fully equipped kitchen and dining area with bar area and a balcony overlooking the harbor, yacht club and Santos Beach.
Dining
Protea Hotel Mossel Bay's trendy restaurant, Cafe Gannet, offers an exciting and truly inviting a la carte menu 7 days a week. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, specialties include fresh Mossel Bay Mussels, Sole and Wild Coastal Oysters. Daily specials 'with a difference' are also a firm favorite with locals and tourists alike. Enjoy relaxed alfresco dining, in the afternoon, with the Gannet's light lunch menu.
The restaurant can accommodate up to 180 people, offering various set menus to suit various budgets. It is also a unique venue for hosting a memorable banquet or cocktail party. The Blue Oyster Pool Lounge, with its own special ambience, pool deck and superb sea views, is the perfect place to kick off a decadent evening out or simply just to relax and enjoy the sunset with an aperitif before dinner.
Conferencing
Protea Hotel Mossel Bay’s conference venue known as The Ochre Conference Centre, it can accommodate a maximum of 120 persons. The various room styles depict the number, with the maximum in Cinema Style. A Boardroom set up can accommodate a maximum of 52 persons, and 100 persons in a Banquet style.
There are various conferencing packages available to groups ranging from full day to half day packages, as well as Full day venue hire and Full Conference packages which include accommodation.

• The Granary - reception / information on museum complex and surroundings. Exhibit of old wagon trails, mountain passes and fynbos
• The Culture Museum - the museum houses many implements, photographs and artefacts of the early history of Mossel Bay
• The Maritime Museum - the building was originally erected in 1901 to serve as a grain and sawmill. It was adapted to serve as a unique Maritime Museum and houses the impressive life-size replica of Bartolomeu Dias's Caravel, the ship in which he sailed into Mossel Bay in the year 1488
• Shell Museum and Aquarium - the Shell Museum houses an impressive shell collection, as well as an imaginative exhibition about the use of shells by man
• Post Office Tree - in 1500, Pedro de Ataide, Commander of one of Cabral's ships, left a letter of importance in a shoe or iron pot under or near a large tree. In 1501, this letter was found by Joao da Nova, Commander of the Third East India Fleet en route to India. In this way, the first Post Office in South Africa was founded
